Cavo Paradiso
Night Club Details...
Cavo
Paradiso Club, Paradise Beach, Mykonos,
22890-27205, Greece
You must have heard that there are people
that come to Mykonos just to party for one night in Cavo Paradiso
and leave the following day. This happens because Cavo is
the club that managed to outdo Ibiza and win a rating as one
of the best three summer clubs of the world-no wonder why
David Morales comes here every summer to celebrate his birthday!
It is located one of the most atmospheric spots of Mykonos
and you can find out that its pool has a breathtaking view
on the Aegean Sea.
The dexx of Cavo Paradiso have hosted the most famous DJs-
from Buuren and Def Mix to Frunkie Knuckles, Carl Cox, Deep
Dish and Tiesto! The fun begins at midnight-gone are the days
of the strictly after-hour parties. Most of the road is mow
paved, which makes things easier, and they have added a small
cafe for the all-nighters. But most importantly there is a
new SMS guest list; send an SMS at 6948 504986 with your name
and the date you wish to party at Cavo Paradiso and you'll
be in the clubs guest list.
DJ Mag Club Review...
Location. Location. Location. It's as important a selling
point for club promoters as it is estate agents, and it's
what makes many of the world's most famous venues most memorable.
Think of Warung, for example, nestled on the balmy beaches
of Balneario Camboriu, in Brazil, or La Terrazza, in an old
fortress in Barcelona. But if there's one place that perhaps
beats everywhere else for the most beautiful backdrop, then
it's arguably Cavo Paradiso.
Built on the Greek island of Mykonos - which legend has
it was formed from the bodies of giants slain by Hercules
- this open-air space has become something of a giant itself
amongst the worldwide clubbing cognoscenti, and one with almost
mythical status.
Its stature and reputation has nothing to do with its physical
size. Whilst it's no small fry at 3000 square metres, there
are much bigger places in the holiday resort town of Mykonos
it overlooks, but absolutely nothing compares to the view
from this venue carved high up into a cliff-face. Staring
out over the Aegean Sea, you half expect to see Odysseus sailing
in after his return from Troy and indeed, with its concentric
half-circles of stone terraces looking down on a swimming
pool in the centre, Cavo Paradiso looks like a theatre for
epic retelling of Greek legends.
For the past 15 years, Cava Paradiso has been a stage for
many of the world's best DJs to perform instead, with David
Morales the first international guest to play here in 1994
and Sven Väth, David Guetta, Sasha and Armin Van Buuren
all having made appearances in the last year alone.
It's also a place where the bohemian vibe that originally
made Mykonos the Greek answer to Ibiza still reigns. While
the cosmopolitanism has been squeezed out of many of Mykonos's
main resorts by cheap package tourism at one end and playboys
with private yachts at the other, here you can feel the hedonistic
spirit in the early morning as hundreds of people salute the
sunrise after a full night of raving.
Cavo Paradiso really is a breath of fresh air, quite literally
if you're Umek, who remembers his gig here in tones tinged
with wonder.
"When you play my style of techno you're normally stuck
in clubs that are really dark and smokey, not fresh and natural
like this," he laughs. "It's the best club in Greece
and the fact that it's on the cliff means there's an amazing
view over the sea and islands.
"There's a really mixed crowd, which makes for an unbelievable
atmosphere, and I got to play a very long set, which was great
fun. DJing there for hours just as the sun came up was undoubtedly
one of the most incredible experiences of my life."
