Electric
Daisy Carnival, Los Angeles, Californina, USA
Electric Daisy Carnival is an annual
electronic dance festival held on the last weekend of June
in Southern California, but has also been held in Texas, Puerto
Rico and Colorado. In 2009, the festival was expanded to a
two day event, which brought in 130,000 attendees[1], making
it the biggest electronic dance festival outside Europe. The
Electric Daisy Carnival normally has numerous stages with
sponsors such as Giant, So Sweet, Bassrush, Club Melodic,
Beatport, Saturday Night Sessions, One Tribe, Rock The Bells,
and Spaceland.
History
The first Electric Daisy Carnival was
held in 1997. In the past, there have been many unique venues
in Southern California that have played host to the annual
electronic music festival. These include the Los Angeles Memorial
Coliseum and Exposition Park in Los Angeles, National Orange
Show Events Center in San Bernardino, Queen Mary Events Park
in Long Beach, Lake Dolores Waterpark in Mark Lapro Barstow,
Hansen Dam in Sylmar, and the International Agri-CenterTulare.
The festival has sold out venues with 30,000 maximum capacities
and reached crowds of 100,000 (40,000+ on Friday; 90,000+
on Saturday)[1] recently in 2010, making it the biggest electronic
music festival outside Europe. Insomniac Events have also
brought the festival to other regions including Colorado and
Texas. 2009 marks the first year that the festival is brought
to Puerto Rico. In 2010 the event expanded to include Dallas,
Texas.
Electric Daisy Carnival usually has multiple stages full
of a variety of electronic dance music, talented performance
artists and visual delights.
It is estimated that roughly 185,000 people attended LA's
Electric Daisy Carnival over Friday and Saturday. The event
drew criticism from local authorities after numerous people
were taken to the hospital by paramedics, and after a 15 year
old attendee ,named Sasha Rodriguez, died for reasons not
officially determined as of July 20, 2010. The county of Los
Angeles began to consider banning all raves from being held
in this city, but, per a Coliseum Commission meeting on July
16, 2010, dropped its moratorium on all remaining events scheduled
for 2010 and kept a moratorium on booking any future events,
pending the outcome of the use of new security and safety
provisions. Those new provisions include an age limit of 18
on all future events and the presence of on-site doctors.
