It has been a great couple of years for
Lottie. Winning the Best New DJ prize at the Ericsson Muzik
Awards in 1999, she then went on to grab a Top 50 spot in
DJ Magazine's DJ Of The Year poll in one of only nine women
in a chart of 100 DJs. These came soon after she took first
place in Ministry's Up & Coming DJs list and a DJ Of The
Month feature in Muzik magzine. She's also been featured heavily
in both the dance and lifestyle press, appearing in the likes
of Mixmag, Seven, The Sunday Times, DJ, Club On, Jockey Slut,
Time Out, Sky, Company, Elle and Nova. She's even modelled
clothes in Loaded magazine for the likes of Armani and Levis.
Lottie's talent was first spotted by the promoters of London's
leading night The Gallery where in 1996 she was selected as
their weekly resident (rated by Tall Paul as his favourite
DJ). Today she has progressed onto her residency at London
Calling - another Turnmills night - with Radio 1's Danny Rampling.
Lottie also plays all over the UK at the likes of Basics in
Leeds, The Bomb in Nottingham, Slam in Glasgow, Shindig in
Newcastle, Underwater in London, Sugar in Leamington Spa,
Boutique (various venues), The Ministry of Sound (various
countries), Passion in Coalville She also proudly holds the
title of being Bugged Out's first lady, an honour indeed to
be so highly regarded at this legendary Liverpool club.
Where Lottie shines as a DJ is in her quality of music and
her insistence in only playing proper house. Spinning deep
and tribal, through to tough and techy house with an added
twisted disco and funky sound from UK and American labels,
she is a consummate spinner. Combining her looks and talent
was somewhat inevitable, although her insistence that music
come first has strongly directed what media coverage she chooses.
Entering the world of TV was a natural step for Lottie, presenting
for MTV at Homelands (2000) and appearing on Channel 4's award
winning Faking It show as a mentor to a classical musician
who was trying to make it as a club DJ.
This year has also witnessed Lottie competing in the (live)
Comic Relief DJ Battle on Radio 1, where she appeared as the
only female spinner. Beating former Underworld man Darren
Emerson, she was just knocked out in the semi finals by the
legendary Norman Cook.
During her busy schedule in the UK, she has had a series
of international dates including Manumission, Subliminal (in
Miami, New York and Ibiza), Space and Pacha in Ibiza plus
guest spots in Venezuela, Italy, Monte Carlo, Ireland, Switzerland,
Moscow, Canada, Brazil, Greece, Malta and Israel. The second
half of 2000 also saw her promoting her Live CD in Las Vegas,
Chicago, St Louis, Singapore, Sydney, Brisbane, Perth and
Melbourne. 2001 will see her featuring more in the States,
plus another tour in Australia in July and one in Asia later
on in the year.
Lottie can also be found co-hosting Missdemeanours with Virgin
Record's Caroline Prothero a phenomenally successful weekly
club night at The End's AKA in London's Covent Garden - a
night that has attracted high profile guests such as DJ Sneak,
Cassius, Erick Morillo, Todd Terry and Deep Dish. Having recently
appeared on the cover of March's Time Out's 25 Best Bar Joint's,
Missdemeanours also hosts its own radio show via The Ministry's
live webcast. Lottie has also enjoyed numerous guest spots
on Radio One and Kiss FM.
Perhaps the biggest highlight in her career to date, Lottie
has released her first mix CD, July 2000's second instalment
of the Live series. The CD gave her total musical freedom,
enabling Lottie to produce a mix compilation of her choice
and style, whilst focusing her taste in deep house; being
described as a musical knapsack of deep and dirty 'proper'
house music by 7 Magazine. Watch out for her next mix CD due
out on React in August 2001.
Finally, her workload is further increased by a hectic production
schedule for her own compositions including 'The Sound' on
Duty Free Recordings and 'The Yob' with Trade DJ Malcolm Duffy
on Remote. Others include 'Relax' by Robbie Rivera, and also
Lottie's favourite track, 'Happy Days' for Defected came out
in June '99. During 2000 she completed a remix of Junior Cartier's
'Women Beat Their Men' again with production partner Malcolm
Duffy. Towards the end of the year she finished a remix of
'Walk Of Life' by Billie on Innocent Records and her second
solo single 'Bushroot' (on Duty Free Recordings) was released
in December.
So far this year Lottie has done a remix of 'Mountains' by
Meeker on Darren Emerson's label Underwater, which came out
in February and 'Salsoul Nugget" by M& S on FFRR
which came out in March. Her forthcoming remix of desert's
'Lettin' Ya Mind Go' on Futuregroove/ Mute Records is due
out later this year. Also, the third release on Duty Free
Recording is aimed for release in October 2001.
