Watergate
Night Club Details...
Falckensteinstrasse
49, Kreuzberg, Berlin 10997. Germany
Watergate is a beautifully designed split-level club
overlooking the River Spree. Floor to ceiling plate glass
windows. It is famous for its LED lighting system that runs
the length of the club. The music policy is mostly
house and techno.
Clubbing cognescenti descending on Berlin
will appreciate this throbbing hotspot, which regularly invites
some of the world's premier DJ talent into its folds. Names
like Adam Freeland, Chicken Lips and even Eric Morillo are
commonplace in Watergate which specialises in house, break-beat
and drum and bass nights. The actual club space ain't shabby
either.
With its floor-ceiling plate glass windows
overlooking the Spree and cubic-minamalist decor you could
easily be lulled into a false sense of sophistication. Don't
worry though, that soon evaporates when the first big tune
kicks in...

Club Review...
While Sin Palace Berghain often gets all the credit as Berlin's
premier techno palace, the intimate, convivial surroundings
of Watergate have their own claim to being the city's best
club.
Many talk of its innovative, and much imitated LED light
displays that adorn the walls of the club's long, low ceilinged
room, pulsing in time to the beats of the cream of the house
and tech crop.
But just as appealing is Watergate's unassuming, resolutely
party-centric crowd. Frenetic and friendly, Watergate boasts
an infamously powerful Funktion One soundsystem that is put
through its paces by everyone from M.A.N.D.Y to Ellen Allien,
Mike Shannon to Kiki on a regular basis.
"Watergate is exactly what a super-slick disco 3000
should be," reckons Mike Shannon. "You have a crazy
atmosphere, with some killer sound and an LED matrix unlike
any other over your head. Clubs don't get much better than
this."
