Whenever people are touted as an ‘overnight
success’, it usually means they’ve got years of
hard work behind them. This is certainly true of Paolo Mojo;
a DJ since 1991 who has clocked up sets from China to Chelmsford
and had a hand in nearly all aspects of the dance music business..
Paolo exploded on to the international scene in 2001 to unprecedented
acclaim with the release of his double CD mix, Music Is Freedom.
Highlights included winning the Muzik magazine Bedlam competition
(and a subsequent nomination for ‘Best Bedlam DJ’
award at their annual awards) and being chosen as the winner
of Rapture TV’s
Homelands Contest. Paolo was also touched to receive personal
messages of congratulations from Danny Tenaglia, Carl Cox
and Lee Burridge as well as huge underground and internet
based support from all over the world.
Over the course of the year and now into 2002, Paolo has
played at some of the world’s most prestigious venues,
including Zouk (Singapore) Fabric (London), Bedrock (London)
Pacha (Ibiza), TeXound (Taiwan) and several appearances at
The Dome in Tel Aviv. He has toured Asia for DJ Magazine with
Tom 'Superchumbo' Stephan and has begun a monthly residency
in Ireland for Inertia where he delivers monthly six hour
sets that are gathering him a fanatically loyal following.
Other work has taken him to South America twice (including
an acclaimed NYE 2002 gig in Argentina), Russia, the Netherlands,
Scotland, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Taiwan. On the home front,
he has delivered memorable sets at amongst others, Union in
Leeds, The Gallery at Turnmills and even a special warm up
for Lee Burridge and Boxed who asked Paolo to play at the
launch party for Lee’s Nu-Breed compilation.
Proving that Music is Freedom was not simply a flash in the
pan, the follow-up mix was handed to John Digweed, who immediately
offered Paolo a guest mix on his Kiss 100 show. The mix was
broadcast a week later, raising Paolo’s profile even
further, and leading to his debut Bedrock London appearance
in December 2001.
